Finnish Ambassador in Cairo launch “FinnStart Cairo 2018“ for emerging Egyptian entrepreneurs
The Finnish Embassy in Cairo, will launch a start-up event for 130 representatives of emerging Egyptian startup companies on Saturday 12 May. The event is hosted by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AAST) in Cairo, and is expected to be inaugurated by Finnish Ambassador in Cairo Laura Kansikas-Debraise and the Vice President of the Arab Academy for Educational and Student Affairs Dr. Gamal Selim. The main aim of the event is to boost the start-up scene in Egypt, and the transfer of knowledge between the two countries.
Finland boasts over 10% of the world’s start-up exits. One of the most famous worldwide Finnish start-up events is the annual Hi-Tech "Slush" mega-fest. Much of the startup capital is concentrated in the gaming industry, clean-tech, and ICT. This focus on technology is one of the factors linking the start-up scenes in both Finland and Egypt .The startup scene in Egypt took a big leap forward after the 2011 Revolution that gave youth the feeling that they can muster their own economic destiny and break traditional business forms. The Egyptian market has many talented, tech-savvy youth who can strategically contribute to Egypt’s economic growth particularly in the mobile and technological field.
The event is expected to aid emerging start-ups to find the resources they need especially in the Egyptian context. The event will concentrate on key factors for success, aiming to give participants practical advice on how to expand their customer base and what benefits mentorship can bring. Speakers will include financers and experts in the start-up field, and success stories by both Egyptian and Finnish start-ups will be presented.
