British Consulate in Alexandria celebrates the Queen’s 92nd birthday
It was a royal party with a difference as British Ambassador in Egypt John Casson and Consul General Wendy Freeman celebrated Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s 92nd Birthday with four hundred Alexandrians from all walks of life.
As well as celebrating Queen Elizabeth and her new great grandson Prince Louis, the party threw the spotlight on the other stars of UK - Egyptian relations – hundreds of British and Egyptian people from sports, arts, business, entrepreneurship, civil society and government who make relations between the countries strong, rich, diverse and continuing.
Ambassador John Casson said: “The Queen’s authority comes not just from her crown but from her human qualities - her character and lifelong spirit of service. In the same way, the real power in diplomacy is not summits and protocol but people living, working, building, innovating, competing, travelling together. So today we celebrate not just The Queen’s special day but our powerful partnership with Egypt, where UK is number one investor and a vital partner in education, security, tourism and economic reform.”
Consul General Wendy Freeman said: “I am delighted to be hosting The Queen’s Birthday Party this year at the Consulate. The event is an opportunity to strengthen strategic partnerships in Alexandria on the path of UK & Egypt’s prosperity, as well as a showcase for Britain and British excellence. I am always heartened by the respect and affection shown by Alexandrians I have met for Her Majesty, especially graduates of British founded schools.”
The event was sponsored by several enterprises such as Designia Mall.
Owner & Managing Director of Designia Mall Ahmed ElNaggar said: "In 2017 we opened our first Hackett mono-brand, which was great success and we plan to have 2 new Hackett mono-brand stores in 2018, with a prospect of 5 Hackett mono-brand stores across Egypt in 2020. We also plan to set up tailor-made section where we shall be flying in the British tailor twice a year to introduce excellence/finesse of British fashion to Egyptian market. With our portfolio of premium and luxury brands we estimate our potential market to be 15-20% of the Egyptian population. Between Hackett and Burberry retail business we have 100 world class team members creatively managing British Fashion in Egypt".
